Volvo Replacement Impeller size?
In ordered and put a new Sierra Impeller which states it is a direct replacement for the Volvo part #875575 (the invoice says 875575-3). The fit was very tight and I had to bend the rubber blades a bit to make it fit, the gasket kit was an exact fit. Is this correct or did I get the wrong one. The engine is an AQ125b. Also when I opened the Heat Echange cap (the one that has the strainer in it, it appears that it has white fins at the bottom, but these were not moving. I filled theis with water as well, but I don't see any flow from the sea water inlet going into this tank. Am I missing something, or should I check another area. Don't want to destroy the engine, or spend a small fortune for this repair if possible.
The impeller should be a tight fit, to install it you should have to twist it as it goes in until the splines line up and you push it straight in the rest of the way. If you can see it after installing part of the impeller blades will be squished. That is how it pumps water, by opening and closing inside the housing. You did not open the heat exchanger but rather the "sea strainer" that has a white plastic strainer in it to stop foreign objects from getting to that impeller. Putting water in there does nothing as it will just go out of the engine or seacock. But you should check it and clean as needed, especially if you run through weeds or other debris.
