Muffler Plate Gasket
my Stihl O41 super chain saw will run but not idle and is difficult to start.?
the muffler broke and leaked hot gasses into the area under the plastic separator under the filter and melted it. i replaced it and also the gaskets under the carb and air filter plate. it ran good for a while and now it wont idle. it will run but you have to continually rev it up or it will die. whats up?
RITE!, FIRST CHECK ALL PRTS ARE ASSEMBLED CORRECT AS PER STANDARD, CHECK IF FILTER IS AIR CLEAN, AND THE FUEL FILTER IN TANK AT HOSE END ALSO.
ALSO ON CARB....UNSCREW THE PLATE THAT THE INLET HOSE LEADS TO....FIND THE 4 MM DIA METAL GAUZE FUEL STRAINER AND CLEAN IF NEEDED...THEN REASSEMBLE.
THEN CHECK S/PLUG GAP.AND FUEL MIX RATIO @ 25 : 1
IF ALL ABOVE IS DONE....FOLLOW THE THROTTLE SETTING INSTRUCTIONS AS FOLLOWS.
ON SAW CASING/HOUSING,OR CARB.....LOOK FOR RAISED LETTERS....H & L H=HIGH L=LOW....THEN STRT SAW.
WHEN WARMED UP ......REV UP TO 80 TO 90 % OF FULL REV THEN WITH SCREW DRIVER ADJUST THE "H" SCREW UNTIL ENGINE NOTES SOUNDS SMOOTH.
THEN GRADULY RELEASE THROTTLE AND ADJUST THE IDLE SCREW "L" TILL SAW CAN SIT THERE IDALING ON ITS OWN....NOTE; IF CHAIN IS MOVING THE IDLE IS TOO HIGH.
THEN GO BACK TO "H" AND SET AT FULL THROTTLE....100%
THE INSTRUCTIONS CAN BE USED ON ALL BRNDS OF 2 STROKE PRODUCTS AS THE CARBS ARE VERY SIMULAR.
