Piston Top End
Help with yamaha pw80 05 top end rebuild?
Hi i need help with the top end rebuild i bought a new piston, rings, cir-clips and gaskets etc but on the cylinder it has a arrow and on this vid it says that the arrow has to be pointing a certain direction well i have no idea where it is supost to be pointing i remember when i took the old piston out it had the arrow pointing down but im not 100% sure please answer this for me.
also with the rings one is plated with this silver stuff and the other is just black the rings are brand new wiseco
my question is do these have to be installed difrentley like i mean the shiny one goes first or whatever????? if none of you can help me ill just have to get a manual
The arrow points toward the Exhaust,,,which is "Down" on a PW.
That's a sort of "standard" on every piston I've ever seen which had an arrow.
If it has an arrow,,,it always points "FORWARD" towards front of bike.
That can be confusing on engine layouts like PW's horizontal engine.
RINGS:
Another "universal standard"
"If there's 2 different colored rings---Lightest Colored one goes on Top"
"If Rings are same Colour,,it doesnt matter"
NOTE:
Occasionally Rings happen to be labelled/marked "TOP".
That does NOT mean it's the Top /Upper Ring
It means "This Side UP"
Your Rings:
Black Ring is Lower Ring,and goes on 1st
Silver Ring is Upper Ring,and goes on last,on Top
Each Ring has a Top & Bottom.
Look closely on the ring near the end gap.
You will find Some kind of Markings---Dots,X's,,Writing,,,Something
Any Markings are ALWAYS on the Upper side of the Ring
Finally,,,make certain the rings are aligned on the locater pins in the piston's ring grooves.
Put the rings on the piston>
Put the Cylinder Bottom-side-UP on the Bench>
Put piston Into Cylinder (aligned up properlyy according to arrow)>>
Push it slowly thru the entire cylinder and out the top.
FEEL as you push it slowly for any snags or hanging up on anything
Make sure it all fits "on the bench" Before installing it on the bike.

*Lightest Coloured Ring Always goes On Top
--Same Coloured rings dont matter
*Any Markings on Ring always go UP
